6. CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES-

One must help oneself before helping others.

One should be more pragmatic than courageous.

Natural disasters are acts of God.

On basis of geographic conditions, discuss why your city would probably never experience a tsunami or might experience one.

Sanjeev was a life-guard serving in the Katchall island of the Nicobar group of islands.

Meghana was brought to the shore by a wave.

Almas Javed had gone with her family to celebrate Eid in Nancowry Island.

The tsunami waves were triggered by a massive earthquake off northern Sumatra.

The hotel building in which Tilly was staying withstood the surge of four tsunami waves.

Many animal carcasses were found on the Patanangala beach inside the Yala National Park in Srilanka.

Animals can sense an approaching disaster long before humans realise what's going on.

Prepare a two-page report on How Tsunamis Are Born In The Oceans.

Make a multimedia presentation on The Horrors of Tsunamis

Find a list of historic tsunamis and mark them on a map. Then do the same for large earthquakes. Do you see any pattern? (The Ring of Fire should emerge from these marks.) Find out about the location, importance and structure of the Ring of Fire and why it is associated with earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis.

How do you think a tsunami affects the fish in an area where the tsunami strikes? Write your ideas about it. Then work with a classmate to do research and find out more about this subject.
